I have been a little caught up lately even more than usual because of an absolutely amazing media training called Progressive Women’s Voices run by the Women’s Media Center. Not only did we get to all stay in a fabulous spaceship-themed hotel but the workshops and speakers were truly mind-blowing.

We practiced on-camera training and were taped three times in 72 hours, as well as getting taped in a TV studio with Laura Flanders from GRITtv who generously donated her time. We talked about “Owning our Expertise” and honing down our message over and over. We practiced on-camera debates, keeping in mind that it is not necessarily statistics and hard facts that win the audience over but appealing to their core values and emotional heartstrings. I even won a free copy of Gloria Feldt’s book, No Excuses: 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think About Power, in a business card drawing!

The whole experience was action-packed and the other women participants were so inspiring. I am ecstatic about going forward and pitching stories to news outlets and feminist places and growing my relationships with these 14 amazing women.
