Today mom and I spent 3 hours making dumplings. Well, she may have spent 4 hours. (I didn't help her make the meat ones). It was also extra exciting because I learned how to roll the wrapper/skins for the first time ever! I was very proud of myself.
One of the fortunate benefits from this pandemic is that I'm able to create memories like these. Live close to my family and chit chat with mom while we make a gazillion dumplings. On a lazy Sunday afternoon.
You know the funny thing is, we never got to do these things growing up. My mom actually had to learn how to make dumplings skin from YouTube because her mom isn't from northern China and she never grew up making it with Popo either. Plus the fact that my mom worked all day and was too tired to play Martha Stewart beyond making dinner for the family every night.
So, this is what I've been doing for fun, during this global pandemic and national economic and social chaos. Swimming in the river before sunset. Reading in bed by the window. Dancing in my bedroom. Looking for the moon through the trees. Enjoying my alone time. Something a couple decades ago I couldn't barely handle. But that's for another post.
For now, grab your favorite blanket and drink and curl up with a book or a show. Take a little Me Time. I dare you.
