This is one of my favorite favorite topics: How to Start a Regular Consistent and Powerful Journaling Practice.
I have been doing a lot of eating and cooking and family time during this holiday. It's been really good and self-reflective as well. Visiting farmer's markets, 10 degree windchill, really nice people, small towns --- have been great for my soul.
It's also been a great time to do more reflecting on Journaling Sisters and why I started it in the first place.
This is what I came up with:
I WANT TO START A MOVEMENT FOR WOMEN TO:
1. BE UNITED
2. FOCUS ON YOU --- YOUR WANTS, YOUR NEEDS, YOUR DREAMS
WHAT WOULD IT MEAN TO PUT YOURSELF CENTRAL IN YOUR LIFE?
So yea.....
I realize it's not easy.
I am still learning how to put myself central in my life ---- everyday. It's a process.
A wondrous process!
And one great way to start putting yourself central is to start a regular journaling practice. So how can we start?
Let's keep it simple, shall we?
START A REGULAR POWERFUL JOURNALING PRACTICE IN 3 STEPS:
1. PICK A TIME
Choose a specific time when you will journal. 7am before your day begins? 10pm when your day ends? When can you find a good quiet moment?
2. SET UP YOUR MOOD
Get a nice hot drink. Get a pen that excites you. A journal that inspires you or doesn't intimidate you. And a space that you can reflect and daydream.
3. YOUR FEELING/THOUGHT/APPRECIATION
When you're starting out, try to simply let your mind wander and don't censor your thoughts. Try to free flow from your thoughts out to your hand. If you're stuck on what to write, these 3 things are good to think about:
1) What do you feel right now? Why do you think that is?
2) What is something you've been thinking a lot about? What do you think that's about?
3) Name 3 self-appreciations! Appreciating you for being you is always a good thing to journal on.
Keep it short and simple in the beginning. Set a timer for 10 minutes. If you want to do more, great! If not, that's a perfect place to start. Consistency --- journaling almost daily --- is more important than doing it once for a longer period.
